Gary Gordon and the Academy Board hold open meetings on AA’s finances

We here at the blog want to be sure everyone in the community is aware that the second of two public meetings about the history of Albuquerque Academy’s endowment and the management of the school’s finances will be held tomorrow evening, Monday, April 9th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Simms Auditorium. Please spread the word and bring your questions! As at the first meeting (see the summary writeup below), Andy Watson and a number of trustees will attend and will take questions after Mr. Gordon’s presentation. We’ll be there and we hope you will too.

Yesterday’s meeting was filmed in its entirety by videographers hired by Mr. Gordon, and if you want to see the video, you need to ask the school to make it available to all who were unable to attend. If you’re a part of this community, you have the right to this information.

Update: Please come to the meetings!

Hello, Academy community!

After a lull in activity during Spring Break, it looks like there has been a spike in interest and activity on Save Albuquerque Academy in the last week. Here’s a screenshot of recent activity:

We believe this is a clear indication of the level of community interest in the upcoming meetings with Mr. Gordon, Mr. Watson and (at least some of) the board. Continue reading “Update: Please come to the meetings!”

Finally, some news! Meetings scheduled for April 7 and 9

Hello, Academy community!

I am only just receiving this information, but I want to pass on to you all that I know. Last Thursday night, Mr. Hibbett met with Mr. Tom Smidt, incoming chairman of the Academy Board of Trustees. One result of this meeting was the news that the trustees are planning two upcoming events. They are described as “Information Sessions for all interested parents and community members,” and will reportedly focus on the history of Albuquerque Academy’s endowment. We’re informed that these meetings will be structured as a 45-50 minute presentation by Academy treasurer Gary Gordon, followed by a question and answer period. Finally, we’ve been told that “some trustees” will be there; Mr. Watson is expected to attend as well, I’m told.

Mark your calendars! The presentations will be:

Saturday, April 7, 9:00-11:00 a.m., and

Monday, April 9, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The meetings will be in Simms Auditorium and no reservations are necessary.

Although these events do not sound like the “town halls” promised to the community by Mr. Honegger in his last email, they are a step in the right direction. Please plan to attend one or both if you can, and spread the word! Bring your questions!

Update: No news yet, March 1

Hello, Academy community!

We’ve had several inquiries come through this site asking whether the Board has given us a date for the town hall proposed in Mr. Honegger’s last letter. Thus far, we haven’t had a reply. We’ll be sure to post it here as soon as we hear anything… stay tuned.
