I have read through this blog thoroughly on two separate occasions. Thus making sure to digest the information over a period of time. As a prospective parent of two children that will be paying full tuition in cash, we will move on to another school. We wish this school the best of luck, hopefully your institution will find it way through tough questions. Yet we did not apply due to the mismanagement. As professional parents, we just would like our children to get off to a smooth start with an enthusiastic group of teachers.

[Alumni & Faculty Child]

Dear Roll’n on,

As an alumni I would highly encourage you to reconsider this decision. Sadly yes, I agree the leadership of this school has failed this school immensely. However I would like to point out a couple of amazing things this situation has brought to the forefront.

First I want to reiterate what many people in the forms have mentioned, as a college graduate (who was enrolled in 2 different colleges) and Academy alum, the Teachers at the Academy have been some of the best educators I have encountered in my educational career. I will be completely transparent, some teachers will share different beliefs as you and your kids, some will not recognize your kids true potential, but every organization will have a bad apple as we are human and no one is perfect (and this sentence will be true at any school you enroll your kids in). What I did find are some of the greatest mentors and lifelong influences that have set me on a path of great success. The majority of the instructors share a passion to educate that is unrivaled. The reason this school was “ranked”, unethically or not, is because of these teachers and faculty, not the leadership. The doors and opportunities this school opened for me from the blood, sweat and tears of its teachers and faculty can only speak for its self. I am certain they will continue to educate with this passion until a metal chain prevents them from getting in the gates. It has been a sad day that in order to save the opportunity this school can offer, the dirty laundry had to exploded from the closet but as long as young and bright students like yours keep going to this school, the legacy will continue to grow.

Second I want to make apparent the community that has stepped up during this time. Alumni from this school spread across many reaches of the earth which all started in the red bricks of The Academy. Many decorated alumni that have made huge impacts in many communities across the world and would probably agree that this school was the foundation to something much bigger than just a high school diploma. Being surrounded by some of the smartest and brightest only challenged me to be the best version of myself that I could be. Many alumni donate back because they realize what an impact this school has had and they wish for the same for many other young kids in Albuquerque. It is a shame that this situation has to be solved in this manner but I believe that the Academy community will see to the success of this institution. I too will not be donating any amount of money until the success of this school is ensured by the leadership.

I am saddened as an Alumni to see great young minds miss this opportunity but recognize that this was a long time coming. Trust that this is still one of the best institutions Albuquerque has to offer and will only be better when then dust settles.

A Now Optimistic Alumni

Dear Roll’n on,
The past couple of weeks have been gloomy for me due to the public exposure of the current endowment status and the short, unfulfilling responses from our Board. Yet, as I am here on campus, I see the passionate faculty still teaching selflessly, the eager students still achieving high academic goals, I see seniors enthusiastically awaiting for senior projects, I see staff working diligently every day to make sure day to day operations carry on in a dignified manner, I see this place for what it really is and that’s my home away from home. This place is what it is thanks to the hardworking members.

My family is proud to be part of this community and we are proud that our child is enrolled in this amazing school. Our child has developed amazing relationships here and has set life and academic goals that we never thought would have been possible but thanks to this institution, it is now possible and realistically attainable. This is an example of just one student, one family, and one employee.

This public forum is an amazing demonstration of just how many people care for this place and are eager for it to last a lifetime. Look at the amazing response to you from Alumni & Faculty child, that is a perfect example of our bright alums!

Yes, this place has financial and administrative issues that require dedicated attention and clarification right now but the core (employees, students, community members) is still running strong.

Roll’n on, I wish you and your family the best and I do hope that you will reconsider Albuquerque Academy.
