I remember the joining the Academy faculty more than 15 years ago. It was a vibrant, sunny, open, happy place. So full of positive energy.
That Academy is a thing of the past. Now, a cloud hangs over our school. The faculty feel they can’t speak up. Employees are angry and divided. The spark is gone.
Teachers still do great things, because they are professionals. I am proud to be one of them. But it’s a sad fact that so many are so discouraged.
Much as it pains me to say it, I would have a very hard time recommending the Academy as a place to work today.
February 11, 2018 at 10:29 am #566Concerned MomDear Faculty,
Please know how much gratitude and appreciation we as parents have for the knowledge and love of learning you have shared and continue to share with our children. We see a definite need for change at the top and hope you will stay the course of teaching Academy Students until these concerns get resolved. We are sorry for what you have gone through in trying to teach in an environment where you are committed to our students but not feeling supported by the administration. We have also felt a shift in trying to get getting straight answers or being more hesitant to even ask in the past few years. Sort of feel like you get talked around an issue versus receiving an answer. Thanks for all you do and know that we choose to sacrifice to have our children go to Albuquerque Academy because of the you the teachers.
Appreciative Parents
March 1, 2018 at 5:43 am #753fortuna.nmThe past several weeks have revealed so much about the Academy that so many haven’t seen, but now they can.
Parents, think about your own work place. How enthusiastic would you be if you had no faith in your leadership? How much creativity would you bring each day if you felt you had been let down?
The “value add” of a good independent school is that special spark that fuels collaboration, new ideas, extra effort, and a happy faculty.
That’s gone at the Academy. I have been a professional educator my whole life. I have friends who work at other independent schools in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. If anyone asked me, I would tell them to stay away from the Academy. Look elsewhere. The Academy is no longer a place where you can grow, thrive, and build a career.
