So here I am, sitting in my driveway after pulling in from work, and I glance down at the odometer and see that beautiful round number staring back at me—100,000 miles on my 2015 528i. I knew this day was coming, but now that it’s actually here, I can’t help but feel a little anxious about what the next chapter of ownership is going to look like. I’ve had this car for about three years now, bought it with 62,000 on the clock, and honestly it’s been pretty solid overall. I’ve done all the regular maintenance, oil changes every 7,000 miles, new brakes and rotors at 80k, fresh tires at 90k, and I even replaced the water pump proactively because I’d heard horror stories about them failing without warning. But now I’m at that mileage where people start warning you about the big ticket items—transmission service, suspension components, cooling system overhaul, and all those little electronic gremlins that seem to pop up as these cars get older. I’ve been doing my research and trying to figure out what I should prioritize, because I definitely don’t have the budget to just replace everything at once. Part of me wonders if I should just trade it in while it’s still running perfectly and get something newer with lower miles, but then I think about how much I actually enjoy driving this car and how well it suits my needs. The way it handles, the comfort on long trips, the fuel efficiency for a car this size—it’s hard to justify letting it go just because I’m scared of potential repairs. I’ve been reading through owner forums and watching maintenance videos to get a sense of what other people have experienced at this mileage, and I’m starting to put together a plan of what to tackle first and what can wait a little longer. I actually came across some useful information while I was searching around, and this website had a pretty detailed breakdown of common issues that pop up on these models as they age, which helped me feel a little more prepared. I know I’m probably overthinking this, but I’ve been burned before with a previous car where I ignored small issues and they snowballed into massive repair bills, so I’m trying to be smarter this time around. Has anyone else here kept their BMW past the 100k mark and had a good experience, or am I being naive thinking this car has a lot of life left in it? I’d really love to hear from people who’ve been in this position and what they decided to do, whether you kept it and invested in the maintenance or cut your losses and moved on. I’m leaning toward keeping it because I genuinely love the car, but I also don’t want to be that guy who’s constantly at the shop throwing money at an endless list of problems. Any honest advice would be seriously appreciated right now.
