Hello everybody,
I have to say I am wondering, do teachers at AA make more money than teachers at other schools? It looks like if this stuff is right the administrators sure make a lot more than their public school peers.
My kids’ granddad worked on Wall Street, so I’ve seen a lot of people who made huge salaries… but in a school?
January 30, 2018 at 9:18 pm #241MaunakeaGreat question. It is clear from the data in Peter’s letter that the Academy’s head and CFO are paid much more than APS. But I don’t know about teachers. And add to that the fact that we live in a poor state, and the Academy’s financial aid has taken a serious hit.
If you find out, please post.

February 1, 2018 at 7:50 am #289Former ParentI am pretty sure that the AA teacher salaries are about the same as APS. I don’t know how the benefit packages compare. I do know that faculty/staff lost the full tuition remission benefit right after Mr. Watson’s children graduated. Also, someone on one of these threads said that retirement benefits have been lowered. I always contributed to the faculty appreciation breakfasts and things like that because I knew teachers don’t get paid their worth. One of the threads said that class size and teaching load of the teachers has increased by 20 per cent. How is that possible? Back in the day, my daughter’s teachers were always available to answer questions (even by email after school hours). How is there time for 20 per cent more of that? I don’t think teachers get paid “overtime” like I do.

When I think about the fact that we not only expect Mr. Watson to administer a world-class education for our students and, in this day of reprehensible and frightening school violence, to also be responsible for the safety and well-being of our children and the hundreds of parents, grand-parents, and extra-curricular visiting students on campus every day, I think $235 per student per year is a bargain.
