Today, as I drove home from school with our children, each child mentioned how the majority of the faculty, staff and administrators were upset and angry today. Preoccupied and in some cases rude, short-tempered and unwilling to provide adequate attention/support to students. Mr. Watson sent an email out to staff and faculty yesterday that stated “…Thank you for your focus on students…” during this time. Obviously, the administrators, staff and faculty are having a difficult time focusing on students. Perhaps, the school needs to have a “Faculty/Staff In-Service Day” in order to address some of these issues so that our children and students continue to be the primary focus.
Thank you, Concerned Parent. Anyone who knows anything about schools knows that the only way forward is an honest response to Mr. Hibbett’s letter, followed by an open forum/town hall where any and all questions will be welcome, with no fear of retribution.
Read through the posts here and you will see many thoughtful people all saying the same thing: avoiding, burying, evading, obfuscating only makes things worse. And then our children suffer.
Dear concerned parent,
As a senior at Albuquerque Academy, I think I have a pretty good understanding of what the student-teacher relationship is like at AA. In my 7 years as a student not once have I ever come in contact with a teacher who didn’t care about my personal as well as Academic well being.
I can’t say that I noticed the ill will that Concerned Parent describes–not today or any other day.
You will not find a more dedicated or skilled faculty than the Academy’s, and I have taught at four schools.
That said, PLEASE, parents, take note of what people have said about how the faculty, especially those who speak out because they love the school, are being treated by members of the administration.
